Prepare High School Seniors

  1. Be sure that they know about Chi Alpha! If possible, invite Chi Alpha missionaries to come and speak in your youth group at least once a year.
  2. For Christmas of their senior year by them an appropriate gift-book that will help them out. How to Stay Christian in College (ISBN:1576830616) by J. Budziszewski is the most practical guide around.
  3. If possible, in the spring quarter launch a discussion group/small group/breakout session where seniors can talk about their impending college experience. If they begin praying and thinking about it now it will really help them out.
  4. Have a commissioning service. Find out what school they’re going to and print up a missions certificate. Affix their photo and hang it up in the youth meeting space. Gather the students around to pray for them and send them off to be Christ’s ambassadors to their college campus.
  5. Visit their school’s website and find out what Christian ministries are active on campus. Print out the list (with phone numbers and email) and hand it to them.
  6. Keep in touch! Pray for them, email them, send them resources, touch base with them over holidays. Notify them of district events for college students.
  7. Urge them to attend the district youth events, because Chi Alpha almost always has a workshop track going to help high school seniors excel spiritually, academically, and relationally at the secular university.
  8. Accept that they have to walk their own path and you’re not responsible for their choices. All you’re responsible for is doing your best to help them make the right choices.
